Why Stagecoach?

One of the enduring images of the old west is the stagecoach. When you do some research into stagecoaches, it turns out that what most people think of as a stagecoach was actually built by a company in New England. They were designed and built by Abbot Downing Company in Concord New Hampshire.

These iconic stagecoaches were used by Wells Fargo to carry bank notes and other valuables. Wells Fargo has a nice part of its website talking about the Concord Coach that they used. They were very well built and there are still more than 100 coaches still in existence and some have been restored to be used. A great quote about the coaches stated, “Concord stagecoaches were built so solidly it became known they didn’t break down but just wore out.”

And when you think about that, that’s a great testament to how people used to build things in this country. I think it’s also great to be known for a product that just doesn’t break. Something I think all businesses should aspire to do for their own customers.
